“knowledge packets” - little bits of truth (or errors) that we possess.
most learning are almost entirely on the acquisition of knowledge packets
things that one should or should not do.
data to be retained and later recovered on demand
we don’t just stack up knowledge packets
to gain each new knowledge packet we ask “why”
a mental map gives us understanding of cause and effect within a situation.
this understanding allow us to derive a solution to any problem within the situation, instead of attempting to select a rote-learned response.
mathematicians call “isomorphism”, machine learning calls “invariance”, where you can reapply knowledge
we rearrange our mental maps to product simpler expressions, we find it hard when the topic seemed complicated
abstract pattern recognition
without reflections, there can be no mental maps, only knowledge packets.
reflection is daydreaming
packing is when you stop youself asking “why”
rote-learned memory - memória aprendida
rote-learned response - resposta memorizada
you try to find a knowledge packet that fits your situation.
without a big map means that you often don’t understand what is happening
packers are overly concerned about certainty. they don’t want to fix their mental model, they wanna validate that their mental model is correct.
people are unwilling to think about something unless they are “certain”
you fear of being found to be in the wrong
they cannot believe that anything can be achieved unless someone else spells out in exact detail how to do absolutely everything
